United Kingdom - Main

United Kingdom is a country that comprises the island of Great Britain, the northeastern part of the island of Ireland and many smaller islands. It consists of four constituent countries, England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. While the Isle of Man, Guernsey and Jersey are not part of the UK but Crown dependencies for expediency they will be covered on the UK page.

For a visitor UK can basically tick most boxes depending on what you are looking for. Castles, yes they have them especially on the borderland between Scotland and England where you cannot throw a stone without hitting a huge impressive castle. Palaces? Yes quite a few also with some world famous ones around London but also further afield. Big cities? London. Historic cities? London, Edinburgh, York and so on. Nature? If birds are your interest UK has the 12th largest coastline in the world with some smaller islands having an impressive wildlife. Weather? Eh - you need to get lucky with the rain but there aren't such huge differences between winter and summer as in most continental countries. And so on.

Given this we have been three times to the UK, twice focused on London by necessity and once actually getting out and visiting Scotland, a small part of England, Guernsey and Jersey and we certainly enjoyed each visit and are planning a few more.
