The Bahamas covers multiple islands with the majority of visitors restricted to New Providence Island where the capital of Nassau is located and most cruise ships are docking. By itself New Providence Island offers a variety of activities from beaches and snorkeling, to the old downtown of Nassau and some protected nature areas. However if you are restricted to New Providence Island you will lose on the diversity of choices the other islands offer so visiting at least two islands is recommended if time is available.
From our perspective besides New Providence Island we wanted to visit a more laidback island and Andros Island seemed to fit the bill. While New Providence is small and congested, Andros is one of the largest islands in the Caribbean with a small population and only one main road known for good fishing and great birdwatching.
